“Only one thing abides: an infinite beauty that
passes from form to form, eternally changed and
revealed afresh” — Georg Büchner
I’m Christopher Lynch, a writer and a keen traveller, hiker, photographer, and scientist. I was born and grew up in Papua New Guinea, and have also lived in Australia, the US, China, and Japan. I’m currently based in Brisbane, Australia.
I’ve worked as a freelance writer/editor, English teacher, examiner, Australian Army reservist, photographer, and college manager. I have degrees in journalism and ecology, and an MA in TESOL. A graduate of Clarion South 2007, I’m currently writing short speculative fiction and a book about walking the length of Japan, and studying Writing, Editing, and Publishing at the University of Queensland. I’m also the owner of Tangled Bank Press. You can find a list of my published work in my bibliography.
‘hydrolith’ is a place for me to muse about whatever I feel like. I don’t really think of it as a blog; muses may be haikus or novellas and arrive within minutes or months of each other. What does hydrolith mean? It’s a neologism I came up with years ago to distinguish myself from all the other Christopher Lynches out there, formed from the Greek words for water and stone. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I probably should’ve settled for ‘chrislovesmushrooms’ or something, and saved myself years of blank looks and poised pens. Oh well.
You can contact me on gmail at ‘hydrolith’.
